My dough for my botchas ( you know, this makes me want to look up the correct spelling for that word- used to saying it but not writing it) but it did not rise very well- refrigerator recipe. I had to substitute butter for shortening but I have done that before. It may have not risen as much as usual because I used more whole wheat flour than before. Anyway, I was gonna make one more batch of dough before ushering the kids off to school this morning but I guess that will wait 'til later.

Need to get out to the vegetable garden and give the green beans and corn some iron to see if that helps the color and vitality - I was able to spray it on my petunias, zinnias, hydrangias, and azaelias (sp) last night. Wonder when /if I will see a difference.

With Little League going on almost every night things have been crazy but we will have a 2 week break! This will be a very welcomed treat. My oldest boy -9- came home yesterday after not putting much time into studying for a Science test- because of baseball- with the results of the test. He was so proud (and I think, surprised) to make 100. I was so pleased too! I just don't understand how people juggle school, extra curricular, good grades, family life and home maintenance. I am so blessed to have a husband that goes the extra mile with the kids and don't know what I would do without him.

Well it looks like I am just ramblin' which means I am just procrastinating. Breakfast dishes await, as does sweeping and folding a load of clothes- never ending.

Another day

another dollar. Home from another day at work and far more interested in what is goin' on around here. Out in the garden the beans and corn look a little yellow so I am guessing that they need some iron. I have some vitamin and mineral supplement for plants that says it will make them green, shiny and full of vitality- just what I need.

Looking forward to a long weekend since the kids have Friday and Monday off of school. I want to do a bunch of baking this weekend. I usually keep the freezer full of breakfast breads and we have none at this time. I really enjoy making a Czech bread called botcha(sp)? which a sweet bread filled with cream cheese or poppyseed. I also make kolaches at the same time.

I need to make a dessert for a bake sale for our school and was thinking of converting a Layered Mocha Creme Torte into a couple of pies. The recipe can be tripled and make 3 four layer desserts, so maybe I can make 6 pies????

Embarassment!

Have you ever run out o the house with an outfit to change into that you have not worn in a while, just to find out that it is 2 sizes too small?

Yesterday, after a wonderful day, I start scrambling to get the kids to little league. After the game, I plan to make it to a wake service for a friend's dad. I pull up to another friend's drive to do the quick change thing and make it for the end of the service- everyone looks at me for being so late- or are they saying to themselves-"She's got no reason to wear that dress."

Good thing I worked out yesterday, 'cause now I need to make some changes to fit back into my funeral dress- and other clothes for that matter!

Enough about me!

I work today but would much rather be out in the garden. Much of my corn, green beans and cucumbers have come up and it is probably time to thin them out. I have a difficult time pulling up a perfectly healthy plant just because it is too close to another one but after last year, I realize it needs to be done. I keep bugging my girlfriend who is behind the curve on planting cucumbers to come get some of my seedlings that I will have to just pull up and let die. She said she was coming yesterday, but need to go see if she took any.

I have a few little tomatoes on my vines and can't wait for them to ripen up. The yellow pear tomato plant had fruit on it when I bought it and they are maturing but just not turning yet. We (baby sister and I) took off the protective plastic from around the cages which should give more sun and help them develop better since we shouldn't get another frost.

With Easter around the corner I have been on the lookout for my husband's favorite fruit- wild dewberries. It the true mark of Spring around here when the first dewberry pie hits the table.

Wasn't I just talking about losing weight?????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No wonder.

What a great day!

Today was such a great day for me b/c I was off work and had no set agenda besides getting our taxes tucked away for another year.

Got the kids off to school and baby sister (#5) said she wanted to go to work out- so I go to Body sculpting and she plays in the play room. I come home and get productive. I do the taxes like I promised myself (and my husband- which makes me more accountable) and I feel so good about myself, I start to make some bread. I made some last week for a non-paid catering job that did not turn out so good and I started to blame it on bad yeast. Now I blame it on the cook- I think I did not add an egg like the recipe told me. Anyway, the loaf looked great- braided and tied into a knot that makes a great presentation for a casual- pull apart loaf- infused with herbs! Yum.

Then I was feeling so good about myself, I went outside and cut some basil from my herb garden to garnish the loaf and got the inkling to make pasta for the first time. Now I have made egg noodles a couple of times which is the pasta of the area around here semolina is had to come by. I dug to the botto of my potato and flour bin and found some and right then my friend shows up. Great, I have help, right?

Well, my friend is fingering through the pasta cookbook, then I get my stuff ready. Well, I find out that pasta ain't that hard. Or that is at least what I think so far. It is strung out on the table and is drying. I called my only friend in town who I know has ever made pasta and he is all excited. Of course he wants to try it and he suggests Vodka sauce. I will send it over to him with pesto with the hope of vodka sauce in return. Little selfish of me, huh?

Little league tonight, just like last night, and the night before, and the night before, and the night before...............................................................................................................

More later.

Weekend, here we come

Oh, I dream of a nice relaxing, boring Saturday with nothing to do, but in reality there are piles of laundry I plan to avoid while I steal away outside to see the new plants that have popped up in my garden. From the kitchen window, I can see green beans that have come up and maybe some corn. My husband humors me each year by tilling up a plot of land for me to act like I will actually provide food for the table. The first year was definitely a flop but each year things improve- I learn more, pray more and get a little bit more from the ground.

This year I have been more aggressive than usual with the flowers but that is always a challenge with chickens that think that I plant the flowers for them to roost in. I hope at least half of them make it. I also bought seeds to start my own flowers to plant as it warms up some more.

Need to get everyone moving, so I guess I should.

Cappucino, forgive me.

For I do not know why I stayed up so late last night when I knew the alarm was gonna call my name at 5 AM.

Off to a CEU conference 3 hours away- there is never a good time to work for no pay, at least professionally. I have only been on one blog site in my web life and have only posted one comment so for me to start blogging at such a young bloglife is a bit amazing to me. I am only here thanks to my friend Jody who is no virgin by any means.

Most people would be taken aback by that comment, but when you have 4 kids running around (as we both do), that is plenty of evidence you are no virgin. All joking aside, she speaks a foreign language to me when rambling about blogging and what I need to do, and have to have a successful blog site. I don't care about any of that..... I just think it ..... I don't know what I think. I just wanted to do it. Pretty much the story of my life. I don't always have reasons, but just a bunch of inner motivation stirring inside me to try stuff. You'll see as this whole voyage unfolds.

Right now it is bedtime for the kids, I hear my husband patching a hole in the stairs ( in the 1936 house we have lived in for 4 1/2 years) because he will finally be painting them. Oh, he stopped I guess it is time for prayers and bedtime. I can tell it is gonna be a late night because there is a load of clothes on the coffee table, a load on the dining table and one in the dryer. When all of that is done it is time to pack for a 2 day getaway- albeit work, a getaway is a getaway when you live in rural Texas with the closest city being 1 1/2 hour away. I am talking rural- our closest neighbor is 1/2 mile away and we only have 2. Anyway such is the life of a semi workin' mom with 4 kids.
